Principal Scientist

Mike Wood, Ph. D.

Mike Wood is the principal scientist at Plover Point, LLC. He was born and raised in Southern California and has spent his life living in coastal cities along the California coastline.

Mike is an oceanographer who has spent more than a decade studying glaciers, sea level rise and coastal processes. He holds a Ph.D. in Earth System Science from the University of California, Irvine. He presently works as a professor at San Jose State University where he leads a computational oceanography research group and teaches classes in marine science.

Mike formed Plover Point, LLC in 2026 to use his background in academic research to help coastal communities plan for future coastal hazards and sea level rise.
